Objective
This program is designed to prepare a student for a basic background and Career Opportunity in Skin Care field.Upon completion of the program, meeting all course requirements & Financial Obligations the student will receive a diploma and qualify for Florida State Facial Specialist License.
Description
This program is comprised of Aids / HIV Preventions, Florida Laws & Rules & Regulation – Sanitation – Decontamination & Bacteriology, Ethics, Skin Disorders – Diseases, Skin Cosmetics, Esthetics Procedures, Facial Massage & Therapy, Facial Toning & Treatments, Waxing & Hair removal, Make-up & Color Analysis, and Salon Management.
Instructional Methods
The theory portion of Skin Care is designed for the instructor to review each chapter on a weekly rotating schedule.
In our Skin Care program, the theory portion of the program is integrated with the practical skills.
The following instructional methods are used to present theory and practical lessons, Hands on step by step practical demonstration and repetitive use, Visual Aids such as hand out, video/DVD, flash cards, discussion small group, debates, lecture, role playing, and assisted reading.
COURSES
Course Curriculum
SK01 HIV/AIDS
The study of the law, awareness, and precautions for the prevention of HIV/AIDS transmission and other bloodborne pathogens.
SK03 BACTERIOLOGY, SANITATION, STERILIZATION& HYGIENE
This course teaches students about bacteria and how to prevent the spread of disease including the proper methods of sanitation, sterilization and hygiene.
SK05 BASIC OF ELECTRICY, LIGHTING & MAGNIFICATION
The proper use and measurement of electricity in working with the skin are examined. Students will be taught polarity and the different types of current used in skin care.
SK07 BASIC FACIAL & TREATMENTS, CONSULTATIONS
The basic facial treatment protocol is studied in this course including the general routine and alternate methods depending on the client’s needs. Students will be instructed in preparing the client pre- and post-treatment.
SK09 MAKE-UP APPLICATION &COSMETIC TREATMENT
Students will learn the different types of cosmetics and the proper application including color selection. The student will be trained in the identification of different facial types and the procedures for corrective makeup.
SK02 FLORIDA LAW
The study of Florida State Laws, Rules& Regulating with an overview as they applied to Cosmetology and salon practice set by the Florida Department of Business &Professional Regulations.
SK04 CHEMISTRY PRODUCTS& SAFETY
This course instructs student on the effects of cosmetics and skin care products on the skin. Basic chemistry is fundamental in choosing the correct products for each client’s skin type.
SK06 SKIN THEORY, BASIC DERMATOLOGY, SKIN DISORDER & DISEASES
Students will be instructed in the knowledge of skin disorders, diseases, analysis and treatment of these disorders. Before performing services or selecting products, the client’s skin type and conditions must be analyzed, and appropriate treatment determined. This course includes the study of the structure and composition of the tissue as well as the study of function of the skin. Students will be instructed in the effects that each service performed will have on the client’s skin.
SK08 HAIR GROWTH, REMOVAL & WAXING
This course teaches students the hair growth cycle and methods of removing unwanted hair. Safety precautions are studied for each method of hair removal.
SK10 PROFESSIONAL ETHICS &SALON MANAGEMENT
Students will be introduced to the requirements and regulations for starting and/or managing a business in skin care. Professional ethics and integrity are dis-cussed, and regulations and office procedures are reviewed.
